Caroline Atwell // Dallas, TX
The timing of this image, and how it came to be, was quite uncanny. I don’t think I’ve ever planned a shoot from initial planning (reaching out to the ballerina in a different city), to the actual shoot, quite as quickly as this shoot with Caroline came about.
I happened to be in Dallas already, photographing Christine D’Clario for her Christmas EP Volume 1 (on 4x5 large format film, I might add!), and Caroline randomly posts an image to Instagram that we had made together two years prior in Las Vegas. To my knowledge, I hadn’t spoken with her since then, only occasionally liking an image on her Instagram every now and then. As I’m preparing to get into bed at about 1:43AM and see this notification, I pause between brushing teeth to comment her well-wishes, and tell her that next time I’m in Las Vegas, we need to connect and shoot again. Seconds later she responded back that she actually moved to Dallas, and if I ever was in Dallas, to reach out.
Well reach out I did, almost spitting out my toothpaste in excitement. If my cousin-dentist is reading this, don’t worry, I finished brushing thoroughly. Emphasis is given for dramatic hyperbole. Within minutes, we planned a shoot, and less than six hours later we were shooting in a ritzy Highland Park shopping center, just minutes away from where I currently was flossing my teeth.
