Sierra Cummings // San Antonio, TX
Prior to the start of this project, I had always looked at ballerinas as if they were quaint, delicate creatures. Beautiful, fragile, and elegant beings: a balancing act between fine and dainty. After having photographed over 190 ballerinas in the past three years, I now see them as what they really are: strong, majestic athletes. Albert Einstein was right to call them the athletes of God.
The only balancing act done here was Sierra (aka CC), making sure not to fall as I fidgeted with focus - all the while looking mighty and strong. The strength required to delicately balance with one foot on pointe, on a tractor tire that isn’t quite as secured as I would have liked, is incredible.
