Emily Carrico // Atlanta, GA
I reached out to Emily a few months before the shoot, another instance of scheduling a shoot during a layover. With a six hour layover, I imagined a shoot involving an airport, Atlanta having the busiest airport in the world. The idea of doing the shoot inside of the airport was very appealing, if not intimidating I purchased a $36 one-way ticket for Emily to ‘fly to New Orleans’, with the intent of Emily using the ticket only to get in through security, doing the shoot, and her leaving before the flight’s actual departure. People miss flights all the time, right? The night before the shoot, my flight from Omaha to Atlanta was delayed from 8am to 2pm - completely missing my 10am shoot with Emily. After visiting Delta’s website, I found a new flight from Omaha to Atlanta, via Minneapolis, putting me into Atlanta at 11:20am. With a new booking in hand, I arrive at the Omaha airport to realize I had booked the flight for the following day, 24 hours later. After speaking with a manager, I was able to get them to give me a standby ticket, and I ran off to try to catch my new flight.
Now that I would be arriving in Atlanta after Emily’s scheduled flight departure, we decided it would be best if she picked me up and we looked for locations around the city. After all the hoopla, we ended up drinking Coca Cola and calling it a day.
*this shoot was one of 6-7 shoots that I did on fresh (faulty) film. Thankfully, Ilford righted this wrong and sent me sufficient film to last me a while.
