Alora Rose // New York City, NY

I had visited the Oculus on Halloween night of 2015. Then, the building was eerily empty and absent of any of the commercialism that now lines the floor level. When I suggested to Alora that we shoot here, this is what I had in mind. When I arrived early to pre-scout, I was bummed to see that it was now full of storefronts at every turn.

I’m a firm believer in the photographic practice - and life advice - of “it’s easier to say sorry than to ask for permission” when it comes to the run-and-gun nature of this project. I knew that security was not about to allow me to pose Alora in the middle of the busy ground level - and sure enough they came almost immediately to enforce rules and regulations. Thankfully, I was able to knock out two 2-second frames before we were kindly escorted off of Oculus property.
