Kate Maxted // San Antonio, TX

I sometimes joke that the best shots require you to risk your life - only if you cheated death is the shot worth-while; and I preface every single shoot with the statement that the ballerina’s safety is my number #2 concern, after a great image; obviously joking. Of course I make this comment after I suggest that Kate lay on the edge of a parking garage barrier, five stories above safe ground. This time I was willing to forgo the shot for her safety. However, when she became excited for this shot, my hesitancy quickly turned to fear for her life. with no one to hold her, Kate literally was hanging on for dear life. To cheat death and make a great image is not an honor that I take lightly. These ballerinas are trusting me with making a great image - and sometimes with their life.
